Bonne was a court cartographer, head of the French Admiralty and prolific publisher. Here we see his map of the world, appropriately titled the “The Old and New World”, showing us the latest discoveries in the western hemisphere, as well as the established world of Europe and the near”east. This is a strong copper plate engraving which contains a lot of detail for the latest explorations, including the islands of the Pacific. Attractive hand color has been appropriately applied, and the map itself is in very good condition.
