Mappe-Monde ou Carte Generale du Globe Terrestre
Out of stock
This is a very rare, double hemisphere map of the world. In North America, California is shown as an island with the Jesso landmass stretching nearly to Japan. This landmass is not included on the Americas map, but it is very prevalent on the Asian map. The cartography in Africa reflects the Ptolemaic source of the Nile in the twin lakes south of the equator, and the political divisions are well represented. Australia is still missing its east coast, but the Dutch discoveries are shown in Tasmania and New Zealand. At the South Pole there are still remnants of Terre Magellanique Australe et Incogneue. This map has an exquisite frame job on it. Its framed with a beautiful silver decorative frame, a sage/tan outer mat, two decorative fillets and gorgeous blue gray inner mat. It also has a plaque with the mapmaker’s name and the date. The size of the map is 7 inches x 6 inches.
