A mermaid with a bouquet characterizes the two aspects of Nice (the seaside & exotic flora)that the ministry of tourism wanted to focus on when they commissioned this poster. Marc Chagall was a native of Russia, when he arrived in Paris in 1910 and soon made a name for himself with his surreal, poetic vision which seemed best suited for a dream-like state. Almost all his posters are taken from his paintings(including this one, titled “The Bay of Angels” or “Le Baie des Anges”). This is a vintage lithographic poster, printed by Mourlot in Paris. This is a very rare vintage poster, because it’s one of only 5,000 created.
