Framed Johnsons Map of New York and the Adjacent Cities’

Capturing our nation in transition, this map features our largest urban center as the trauma of the Civil War was ending, and our nation began to rebuild and recover. New York was developing quickly, reclaiming shoreline for docks and spreading out onto the reaches of Long Island. This map shows us the entirety of Manhattan (Uptown partially in inset), listing street names, parks and even noting a few buildings. Hand colored by ward, this also shows a well laid out Central Park, likewise hand tinted in green, but on a bit of a different lay out than Olmsteads final plan. The map includes a portion of Jersey City, Hoboken as well as Brooklyn and Long Island City. This image is enhanced by fine archival framing including multiple matting with marbleized paper, inner liner, cloth matting, UV protective glass and handsome black wood frame.
